LogACat Privacy Policy

LogACat (“we”, “us”) is a community cat-tracking app: people photograph stray, community, and lost cats, our AI helps identify them, and they’re logged on a shared map with sightings and social features. A parallel DogMap works the same way. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. It applies to our website (logacat.com) and our iOS and Android apps.

Information we collect

• Account — your email address, and (if you use them) Google or Apple sign-in identifiers.
• Profile — a display name, avatar photo, and bio you choose to add.
• Photos & videos — the cat images/videos you upload, including any metadata embedded in them.
• Location — the coordinates of a sighting. This comes from your device’s GPS (with your permission) or a location tag in your photo, or a pin you drop on the map. Location is used to place cats on the map and to find nearby matches.
• Device & notifications — a push-notification token if you enable notifications, and basic device/log data needed to operate and secure the service.
• Payments — if you donate to a cat’s care fund/bounty or subscribe to LogACat+, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation and status, but never your full card number — Stripe handles card data directly.
• Content you create — sightings, comments, posts, votes, messages, bounties, and similar activity.

How we use it

• To run the core service — showing cats on the map, matching sightings, and social features.
• To identify cats: an uploaded photo is sent to our AI provider to read the cat’s appearance (coat, markings, etc.).
• To send notifications you’ve turned on (e.g. a lost cat nearby, activity on a cat you follow).
• To process donations and subscriptions.
• To keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and comply with the law.

Service providers we share with

We don’t sell your personal data. We share only what’s needed with providers that operate the service on our behalf:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI analysis of the cat photo you upload.
• Google Maps — displaying the map and resolving locations.
• Stripe — payment processing for donations and subscriptions.
• Apple / Google push services (APNs, Firebase Cloud Messaging) and web-push — delivering notifications.

What other people can see

LogACat is a community map. Cats you log, their photos, and the approximate location of each sighting are visible to other users. Your display name and profile are visible according to your privacy settings. Consider this before photographing a cat at a sensitive location (like your home). You can adjust visibility in the app’s privacy settings.

Location data

Sighting locations power the map and matching, so they are shared with the community. Granting the app GPS permission is optional — you can instead drop a pin. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings; some features (nearby matching, the “near me” feed) won’t work without it.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and its associated data at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete account), or by emailing us at support@logacat.com. Some records may be retained where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children

LogACat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data. No method is 100% secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls or email support@logacat.com.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll revise the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
